Abortion

Imagen
I think we are all fully aware of what abortion contemplates, but do we really know when it started to be forbidden in Chile?  In this blog I'm going to talk about it, since I think it's important to have a more complete notion about this topic. The first instance of discussion of this issue begins after independence, in the 1874 Penal Code, which with a markedly moralistic tenor places the crime of abortion in Title VII "against the order of families and public morality". Almost 60 years later, the Sanitary Code of 1931 issued under the government of Carlos Ibañez, indicated in its Article 226 that: "Only for therapeutic purposes, a pregnancy may be interrupted or an intervention may be performed to make a woman sterile, which will require the documented opinion of three medical practitioners", which was later modified under the government of Frei Montalva, reducing the documented opinion to two medical practitioners. Years later, the absolute prohibition ...

My future job

As a student of biochemistry it is very common to be asked: "What is biochemistry? What do you do working as a biochemist? What is your field of work?". If I had a penny for every time I heard those questions I would be a millionaire by now. And my answer to these questions is that I don't know yet, but if I had to imagine my dream job, I think it would be something like this: Me working in a lab investigating something that catches my eye or finding a cure for some disease, or something like that.  It is important to emphasize that I would not like to stay in Chile, I want to travel to other countries to work with many people who have my same interests and learn new and innovative things.  As far as the salary is concerned, I know that with this career I will not become a millionaire, but I think that the objective of studying this career is more than that, it is about the experience that you acquire and how you can contribute with it.  About the major I would like to ta...

A piece of my life

Imagen
I would like to talk about this subject because the truth is that I really dont considered it as a subject in my life and no one would imagine that I suffer from it. I was 9 years old when this disease came to me, from one moment to another my life changed, it wasnt something so strange since all my life I saw my dad "fighting" against it, but living it in my own flesh was something very different.  I remember seeing a magazine article about a 10-year-old diabetic girl who had an insulin pump and looked pretty happy. I remember being surprised at the happiness she conveyed and for a moment I wished I was her, obviously I had no idea what I was wishing for.  At first I mentioned that this is not a subject for me and the reason is that after 10 years, and many ups and downs, I don't consider myself a "diseased" person, I live well with this condition and even though I obviously take care of myself, I don't limit myself at all about what to eat or the things I ...

Biochemistry

The question that every person I meet ask me, Why did you choose Biochemistry? well, Where do I start?... If I have to say why did I choose this career I can only think in one thing, chemistry.  All my life I was a pretty artistic person, I really liked to do handicrafts, plastic arts and all that kind of things. That is one of the reasons why I first thinked of study architecture. In this point you may be wondering how did I end up studying my actual career, but just wait, you will found out soon enough. When I start my 11th grade I had to choose which area I wanted to take and I am pretty sure you already know what I choose. In this area my love of chemistry began to blossom. The next year, in my 12th grade I was more pressure than ever to choose what I would do the rest of my life, that is when I found Biochemistry. The thing that catch my attention was that this career consists purely of researching, discover and create new thing, and I thought that maybe it could be a lot more...

My best holidays

Imagen
I clearly can remember the best holidays of my  childhood. I had thirteen years old when I when to Walt Disney World Orlando with my little sister and my father. My vacations lasted approximately ten days and three of them where in Disney. T here are four parks and in only three days you run out of time. The first park we visit was Magic Kingdom, because I was really looking forward to went inside the castle, but when the moment arrived I realize that all was just a lie. You can't go inside the castle, is nothing there, is not actually  like in the movies. Well, despite that, we had more places to visit so I just let it pass. The second place that we visit was  Disney's  Hollywood Studios, this park is all about movies, and my favorite attraction was the Rock "N" Roller Coaster inspired in Aerosmith . T he last but not the least place that we visit was  Epcot, the  theme of this park is "the future", so there are a lot of futurist and te...

France

Imagen
Which country I would like to go to? Well, I love to travel and I would really like to go to any country in the world, to know everywhere, but if I have to choose one, probably I would say France. To be honest I don't know a lot about France, but I think that is a beautiful country, especially Paris, and that the french language is very  charming . I would like to go there because of... the obvious reason, the Eiffel Tower, but I also would like to visit the Louvre museum and go to the tour of the catacombs, and maybe, one day, when I get a bit more sporty I would do the Tour de France. Deviating a bit from the topic, this country mainly took my attention, because of the college scholarships, taking a look at them I found out that Paris is a possibility to go to on exchange, so in the future, when I learn French (because it requires a B2 in the DELF) I would  definitely go!.  P.S. Did you know that the lights of the E...
